Barbers of the Lowcountry Brings an Elevated Men’s Grooming Experience to Pooler

At 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲, customers get more than a haircut, they get an experience. When guests walk into one of Barbers of the Lowcountry’s three locations, they are greeted by a front desk concierge and an inviting waiting room. Once they are checked in, they are offered a snack or beverage, including options like beer from local craft breweries. Once guests are in the chair, they are in good hands with seasoned barbers familiar with many types of men’s haircuts and other men’s grooming offerings.

Barbers of the Lowcountry was founded in 1997 on Hilton Head Island by Lou Nelsen. 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰, 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Their unique approach to barbering was pioneered in 2010 when the Nelsens recognized a need for a new kind of barber shop in the area. “We noticed that guys are wanting to pamper themselves and really take their grooming seriously,” says Brent. So, they started offering straight razor shaves and began stocking a selection of upscale shaving products.

“Back then, there was no styling involved and no education on men’s hair or shaving products. That’s what we brought to the table and what we continue to do today,” says Brent.

In addition to selling high-end products from brands like Truefitt & Hill, Reuzel and 18.21 Man Made, they have developed their own exclusive line of men’s grooming products inspired by their Lowcountry roots. The Loggerhead pomade boasts a cedarwood scent and a strong hold for styling thick or curly hair. The Skiff Hair Creme has a lighter hold and a rich vanilla scent.  The Pluff Mudd sculpting clay is designed for sensitive skin and has a mild coconut scent. The Spanish Moss hair powder is a thickening product that adds volume to hair.

Another offering that sets Barbers of the Lowcountry apart are the tiered membership packages. With a membership, guests receive 18% off haircuts, 15% off additional services like shaves or beard trims, 15% off all products in the shop and complimentary neck cleanups between appointments. Members can also skip the line at checkout and be billed via their member account.

Next year, the Pooler location will start offering quarterly socials with beer, wine or bourbon tastings. Members will be able to attend for free and non-members will pay an entry fee, and the proceeds will benefit a local charity. “We want our customers to feel like they are part of something bigger,” Brent says.
