Jessica N. Sauls is a Cut Above the Rest

Hairstylist, business owner and now author: Jessica N. Sauls is a cut above the rest. She is the owner of By Jessica & Co. Beauty Lounge, a salon she opened in 2016 after many years working as a server and manager in upscale restaurants. Her experience in high-end hospitality has helped her create an unforgettable experience in her salon.

Jessica dropped out of high school but completed her education later in life. In 2015, she enrolled in a program to become a master cosmetologist and harnessed that experience to open her salon. Starting a business was a no-brainer for Jessica because she always knew it was something she wanted to do.

“Finding somewhere to put it was the biggest challenge,” Jessica says. She ultimately landed in Pooler, where clients have enjoyed the convenience of her location.

By Jessica & Co. is a team of five stylists—two of whom have been with the salon since it opened—who offer haircuts for men, women and children, an array of color and highlight treatments and styling. They also offer eyebrow and eyelash services, where Jessica is able to contribute to a cause near and dear to her heart.

Giving Back

She gives back to the community through her own line of hand-designed eyelashes, J LUV LASHES. Each style is dedicated to a woman who has battled cancer, including Jessica’s mother. With each purchase, customers can buy an additional pair that will be donated to a cancer patient at the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler.

Becoming a Published Author

Jessica has thrived as a business owner, but has now taken a new step that has taken more courage and bravery than entrepreneurship.

She has written and published a book titled You Have to Feel to Deal, and it details her journey from a difficult childhood to the fulfillment and success she has found today through hard work, faith in God and her two sons.

“Writing the book was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Jessica says.

The writing process was even more challenging for Jessica because she has dyslexia, which makes reading more difficult for her. Despite that, she has always had a love for writing that stemmed from poems that she would write for her mom.

Future Ventures

Sharing her life’s ups and downs has inspired Jessica to pursue a new venture in addition to operating her salon. She is studying to become a life coach with a focus on mental health.

“I felt like it was a way I could help women who come into my business that are hurting,” Jessica says. “Learning more about mental health will let me help in a positive way.”

Jessica hosted a book signing at By Jessica & Co. in late February to celebrate the release of her book, which was published in November 2022. You can order a copy of You Have to Feel to Deal from jessicansauls.com or pick up a copy at By Jessica & Co. in Pooler.
