Port City Animal Hospital serves the Pooler, Savannah, Port Wentworth, Bloomingdale, and Effingham County areas and is owned and operated by Dr. Jeremy Faris. After completing his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech, Dr. Faris graduated in 2012 from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and began practicing in the Savannah area immediately following graduation. Dr. Faris hails from Warren, Rhode Island, but he and his wife, Janell, fell in love with the low country and now call this area home with their three beautiful children, Hazel, George, and Madeline.
Dr. Faris always loved being around animals of all types from a young age but had early dreams of playing baseball in the major leagues. Though playing catcher for the Braves would have been exciting, he decided to pursue his other field of dreams and become a veterinarian. He had always envisioned a place where families could not only find top quality care for their four-legged family members, but also a place that would provide empathy, knowledge, and education to the families as well. “I have always loved working with both people and pets, and I believe education is such a valuable component in animal health care,” explains Dr. Faris.
It is that focus on client education that provides a relaxed environment for their clients at Port City Animal Hospital. Clients will never feel rushed as Dr. Faris and his team take the time to explain every case, procedure, lab and x-ray so their clients understand all aspects of their pet’s treatment. “Pet owners are often frustrated with veterinary care when the issue at hand is simply treated and never explained to them,” states Dr. Faris. “For example, we take the time to explain what caused the ear infection, the treatment plan, as well as the preventative measures to help avoid recurring ear infections in the future. What makes us different? We take the time!”
Time is not the only thing Dr. Faris has invested in at Port City Animal Hospital. From in-house lab work, x-ray equipment, fluid pumps, a dental machine and everything in between, Dr. Faris has also invested a great deal into the technology and equipment available at his clinic to provide top quality care. Where many veterinarians use a heating pad for their patients during surgeries to keep their core temperature from dropping, Dr. Faris has invested in a vet bed warmer specifically designed to regulate the pet’s core temperature in the safest manner possible. “We took the time when we built the facility to think about every step. Not just how we can warm the animal, but also the safest way to care for our patients,” explains Dr. Faris.
The Veterinary Technicians at Port City Animal Hospital are licensed professionals who have been highly trained by board certified veterinary anesthesiologists. They are one of few offices in the Savannah area to have a staff trained in veterinary anesthesiology to provide the best care for your pets possible before, during and after surgical procedures. “We want people to know that we are very different from anyone else around because of what we have invested in the technology, training, and care for our facility,” says Dr. Faris.
Dr. Faris and his team at Port City Animal Hospital continuously strive to exceed client expectations through consistent high-quality service and communication. They understand that your pets are another member of your family, and they want them to live the best life possible.
