Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy, LLC

If your child needs speech, occupational or physical therapy you will be glad to know there is a wonderful resource right here in Pooler that can meet your child’s pediatric therapy needs. Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy LLC is an outpatient pediatric therapy clinic with offices located in Pooler and Richmond Hill.

“Our clinic was established based on a desire to simplify the lives of families by providing easily accessible speech, occupational, and physical therapy services to children in the greater Savannah area,” says owner Beth Adkisson Fleming, M.S., CCC-SLP and SLP (Speech Language Pathologist). “Our mission is to help each child reach his or her fullest potential. We do this through providing top-notch, evidence-based therapeutic principles within a fun-loving, supportive and caring environment.“

Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy LLC provides treatment for a variety of disorders including, but not limited to: speech-language delays, sensory processing disorder, feeding issues, oral motor weakness and delays; self-help, fine motor and gross motor delays.

“Children come to our office for various reasons. Some are referred to us for mild delays in development, such as late walking or talking. Infants are often referred for physical therapy to treat Torticollis, a condition of the neck musculature which causes the head to tilt to one side which, if left untreated, can lead to Plagiocephaly, which is a flattening of part of the skull, causing an irregular head shape. Other children are referred to us due to developmental disabilities, such as Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome and Autism,” Beth adds, “Getting help at the earliest age possible is best. At Chatterbox, we treat children from birth to age twenty-one years old. Early intervention brings the best outcomes, but clients come in at any age, many at four or five years of age, and are still able to experience excellent outcomes.”

“In order to help with the early identification of developmental delays and disorders, our clinic offers free developmental screenings throughout the year. We recently have teamed with Joye Psychology to provide free autism screenings at these events. If families are interested in attending one of our screenings they can follow our Facebook or Instagram pages for announcements. The next screening will be in the fall.”

Beth says, “Our clients come to us through referrals from their pediatrician, often due to shared concerns about their child’s development by the parents and pediatrician. If parents are concerned about their child’s development, they can express that to their pediatricians for a referral.”

Speech Therapy

Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy provides Speech, Occupational and Physical therapy. The primary goal of Speech Therapy is to improve your child’s communication and many children see speech therapists. Sometimes a child has a medical condition that makes speaking more difficult. Most children make some mistakes as they learn to say new words. A speech sound disorder occurs when mistakes continue past a certain age. Every sound has a different range of ages when the child should make the sound correctly. Speech sound disorders include problems with articulation (making sounds) and phonological processes (sound patterns). Some children have a language disorder, which is when a child has problems with understanding, also called receptive language. Some children have problems talking, also called expressive language. Many children have problems with both understanding and talking. And some children have a voice disorder, which is defined as problems with voice quality, loudness, pitch, and resonance.

OT & PT Therapy

For some children with certain learning and attention issues, children who struggle with fine and gross motor skills, Occupational Therapy may be prescribed. It can help kids become more independent and better at completing tasks. Physical impairment, injuries and a host of other issues can hamper a child’s ability to perform common tasks or progress normally through the stages of social or cognitive development. Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to interact with their environment and other children.

Physical Therapy helps children gain critical skills related to independent mobility and gross motor functioning. Through the use of handling techniques, sensory stimulation, play and parent-child interaction, physical therapy helps children accomplish goals related to range of motion, muscle strength, posture, joint mobility, gait, and higher level gross motor development.

Therapeutic success is determined by several factors. Beth says, “Consistency and persistence are key. Following up at home is also very important, so we teach parents how to work on things in the home environment. “

“Treatment sessions for kids should have a healthy dose of play and a playful spirit throughout,” Beth says, “Children like coming here. We do try to make it fun so the children want to participate and interact and don’t feel like it’s work. We have a fun environment; swings, a ball pit, a climbing wall; which we let kids use it to increase their movement. And fun is a great motivator, so having fun helps your child make progress. “

In Good Hands

Led by Owner Beth Adkisson Fleming, M.S., CCC-SLP, the Chatterbox Team is comprised of over 30 therapists and office staff combined. Beth received her Bachelor

in Communication Disorders and graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State

University with a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She has extensive experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis/Verbal Behavior Therapy and has a special interest in working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Severe/Profound Developmental Delays. She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence

from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in the state of Georgia. She says, “Our therapists are dedicated to providing children, families and physicians with the highest quality therapy services available within a fun learning environment,” says Beth, “We have wonderful therapists- we have been blessed.”

“The joy in a parent’s eye when they see progress, when they witness a “first” – a first word, a first step, a first new food. When they see progress in the home environment, when a child who was previously unable to eat in public without a meltdown has a peaceful family meal at Chick-fil-A”! says Beth, “It is very gratifying to see the benefits of our hard work, the child‘s hard work and the parents hard work. Therapy is an ongoing process, sometimes for years. Progress from age two to age nine can be seen as baby steps on a day to day basis, but when we look back in retrospect we can see the huge steps gained over the years.”

The waiting room at Chatterbox is often bustling full of children and their families who are there waiting for their therapy appointments. But while the children are in therapy, the chaos settles and the mood becomes much more calm. Beth shares, “It is really gratifying to see how parents support each other. Look in our waiting room and you will see parents sharing helpful information with each other every day. Sometimes friends will back away from a family when a child has issues, but in our waiting rooms that same family finds support and camaraderie. Anything is scary for any parent when a child is not developing ‘on par’. Listening to other parents’ success stories reiterates that they are in the right place and headed in the right direction.”

Family Friendly

Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy LLC takes a wide range of insurance including Wellcare. They strive to be flexible with appointment times because they know how hard it is for working families to make appointments. Beth assures, “We try our hardest to work with families whether that be financially or scheduling appointments. We try our hardest to take the stress out of therapy. We aren’t always able to provide the perfect solution, but we do our very best when we can, we always try our very best.”
